PIBCSS will again be using the RainedOut.com website, a free mobile texting service to notify our families, students, and instructors of weather issues, important Swim/Sail alerts, and news. The program name is PIBCSS. The user then enters their cell # and will be sent a link to click and confirm. Children with cell phones that are in the program can receive this service as well. Please sign up for RainedOut now if you have not already done so.
The 2017 PIBCSS program will run for five weeks, from June 12th to July 14th. The price of the program will stay the same as follows:
- Swim $100
- Sail $450 (race team will be $550 plus additional costs)
- Introduction to sailing (a short "gobie" class to be announced)
Sailing classes will be divided based on age, experience, skill level, and interest in racing (based on enrollment). Please note the following enrollment policies:
1. Once the program has begun, there will be NO refunds.
2. Registration and payments will be online only. You will be notified shortly when the registration is open.
A big thank you to all of the volunteers and staff that made 2016 a safe and successful season! We are also very thankful for the the current and continuing support of corporate and individual sponsors that make this program possible. Let's do it all again in 2017!
Please consider supporting PIBCSS through our online donation form with Paypal/credit card option. Also please sign-up for the Kroger Community Rewards Program by linking your Kroger loyalty card to the Swim/Sail program. Enrollment must be renewed each year after April 1st, has no cost to you, and greatly benefits Swim/Sail.
Swim Program Highlights|
Morning Swim Classes are for children who are four years of age or older before the sessions start. Classes are held four mornings a week, Monday through Thursday, for five weeks and follow the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum.
Evening Endurance Swim classes are held Monday and Wednesday evenings for five weeks beginning June 12th, 2017. These classes are for swimmers who have completed up through Level IV of the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program and want to improve their strokes and endurance. Many teens continue swimming to stay in shape for high school teams and/or to prepare for additional water safety or lifeguarding courses. The Lake Adventure Class for ages 12+ will meet at the West Shore Ramp (or Crew's Nest Pool if windy) from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. Swimmers 14 years and older can prepare to qualify for the Kelly's Island Swim in July. The qualifying swim takes place in early July (TBA).
Sail Program Highlights
Five Week Learn-to-Sail program will run for five weeks beginning June 12th, 2017. Our program has grown to upward of 100 participants over the last few years. We try to offer something for everyone. Our youngest sailors, aged eight to twelve, usually start out in our Opti Green class with other beginner sailors. Older novice sailors are welcome and will be placed in an age appropriate class where, sailing with their peers, they quickly learn the basics and more. Returning sailors are grouped with an eye toward skill level and age. As their skills improve, interested sailors can participate in the Learn to Race class. Students selected to join the TEAM PIB Race Team will travel off-island to compete against other area youth.
A separate Race Clinic will not be offered this year; however, all sailors will receive some racing experience the last week of classes, with focused training for this years racers to prepare our teams for I-LYA Junior Race Week and the various Saturday regattas.
PIB Race Team Requirements
Team PIB - Junior Race Team participation will be selected by the racing coaches from competent sailors who are committed to improving racing skills. For sailors interested in racing, the Traveler Series racing schedule will be available online when finalized. Just follow the Inter-Lake Yachting Association link and click on Juniors. Due to Off island travel, coaching, and registration costs, there will be additional fees for race team participants of $100 (this is subject to change). PIBCSS will travel to at least three off-island races. Race Team participants are also required to fundraise (to cover costs for team sportswear and the "on the town" dinner for Bayweek). Sailors will also be asked to volunteer at our Spaghetti Dinner.
Junior Bay (July 16th to July 21st) participation requirements are:
-- Turn 13 within the calendar year
-- Provide a copy of your US Sailing membership card ($25) to PIBCSS
-- Copy of birth certificate (if first year of participation)
-- Participate in at least three Traveler Series regattas
-- Be recommended to the Team by the PIBCSS coaches
-- Pay a portion of registration costs (2013 cost was $300)
Parent Participation is crucial in order to have a successfull program. As we know, it takes a village, or in our case, an island. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks (race team lunches, driving/providing vehicles for off island regattas, etc.). There will be a Race Team parent meeting on June 13th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at PIBYC (front tables).
2017 Online Registration materials are available below. Returning participants will receive notice by e-mail to register online, but there will be no paper forms - only online registration through the links below. To be added to our mailing list or for answers to your questions, please contact us by email at . Registration forms are due by May 26, 2017.
