A big thank you to all of the volunteers and staff that made 2021 a successful season! We are also very thankful for the current and continuing support of corporate and individual sponsors that make this program possible. Let's do it all again in 2022!

Also please sign-up for the Kroger Community Rewards Program by linking your Kroger loyalty card to the Swim/Sail program. Enrollment must be renewed each year after April 1st, has no cost to you, and greatly benefits Swim/Sail.

Swim Program Highlights

Morning Swim Classes are for children who are four years of age or older before the sessions start. Classes are held four mornings a week, Monday through Thursday, for five weeks and follow the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum for levels 1-5.

Evening Endurance Swim Classes (Levels 6 and 7+) are held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings for five weeks. These classes are for swimmers who have completed up through Level V of the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program and want to improve their strokes and endurance. Many teens continue swimming to stay in shape for high school teams and/or to prepare for additional water safety or lifeguarding courses.

The Lake Adventure portion of the evening endurance classes will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and meet at the State Park (or an alternative location based on weather).

Sail Program Highlights

Five Week Learn-to-Sail program will run for five weeks beginning June 13th, 2022. Our program has grown to upward of 100 participants over the last few years. We try to offer something for everyone. Our youngest sailors, aged eight to twelve, usually start out in our beginner Opti class with other new sailors. Older novice sailors are welcome and will be placed in an age appropriate class where, sailing with their peers, they quickly learn the basics and more. Returning sailors are grouped with an eye toward skill level and age. As their skills improve, interested sailors can learn racing techniques and with coach's recommendation can join the PIB Race Team. Students selected to join our race team will have the option to travel off-island to compete against other area youth in regional regattas.

All sailors will receive some racing experience the last week of classes, with focused training for this year's racers to prepare our teams for I-LYA Junior Race Week and the various Saturday regattas.

PIB Race Team Requirements

Team PIB - Junior Race Team participation will be selected by the racing coaches from competent sailors who are committed to improving racing skills. For sailors interested in racing, the Traveler Series racing schedule will be available online when finalized. See the Inter-Lake Yachting Association Junior Sailing page for all the details and notices (or follow the Inter-Lake Yachting Association link and click on Juniors). PIBCSS will travel to at least three off-island regattas. Race Team participants are also required to fundraise (to cover costs for team sportswear and the team dinner for Junior Bayweek). Sailors will also be asked to volunteer at our Spaghetti Dinner.

Junior Bay (July 17 to July 21, 2022) participation requirements:
-- Turn 13 within the calendar year
-- Be an active junior or family member of US Sailing
-- Copy of birth certificate (if first year of participation)
-- Participate in at least three Traveler Series regattas
-- Be recommended to the Junior Bayweek Team by the PIBCSS coaches
-- Pay a portion of registration costs (e.g., 2021 cost was $300)

Parent Participation is crucial in order to have a successful program. As we know, it takes a village, or in our case, an island. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks (race team lunches, driving/providing vehicles for off island regattas, etc.). There will be a Race Team parent meeting during the first week of the program at PIBYC (front tables).
